Spiritual Growth Classes for 2010

Poiema: Discipleship/rite of passage experience for junior high students
8 sessions, starting Sunday, April 11th
A multigenerational experience designed to usher the next generation of baptized believers into the adult life of the church. We will meet together to discover what it means to be a follower of Christ and a member of His Church. Each student will also enter into a personal mentor relationship with an adult in our church community who will partner with them along this journey. Our experience together will conclude with a ceremony signifying their entrance into adulthood as a believer.

Basics
5 weeks, starting Tuesday, January 25th at 6:30pm
What is the Bible? What is the message? Why does it matter? For those new to Christianity and those wanting a better grasp on the basics.

Spirituality of Infancy and Early Childhood: How to teach your children about God before they know how to talk.
2 sessions, Sunday, November 7th and Sunday, November 14th
What do infants and very young children experience of God? How can we, as parents and members of this community, cultivate love for the Good Shephard in the hearts of our children before they even learn to speak? We will look through the scriptures to learn how infants experience God, and we will explore ways to raise our little ones to worship with even their very first words.

Parent to Parent (P2P) Advice Sharing Lunches: Learn from the success/failure of those who’ve done it already.
Sunday, February 28th: 1-5 years
Sunday, March 28th: 5-12 years
Sunday, June 27th: 12-18 years

We will invite parents of children in a specific age bracket to join us for lunch with older couples who have successfully raised their children to adulthood. We will lead a conversation about everything from discipline to education to spiritual formation, gaining wisdom from those who have already been where you are. Come with questions!

Freedom in Christ
Interest meetings: Sunday, February 7th and Sunday, September 12th after church.
The mission of the Freedom in Christ Ministry is to provide a Biblically based process and resources by which believers discover who they are in Christ, who Christ is in them and how to live out the truth of those realities everyday so that they become healthy and can make a powerful impact for Christ. This is a 13 week period of meeting with a coach and going through the books “Victory Over the Darkness” and “The Bondage Breaker”by Neil Anderson.

God, Film and Us
6 Weeks, begins Saturday, June 26th, 7-10:30pm
From the very beginning, God revealed Himself to humankind through stories. God is the great narrator of human history and so it is no surprise that Jesus told his good news in the form of stories. This summer, we will be gathering to understand God better by listening and seeing narrative. Because our culture tells stories through film, we will be watching and discussing several films in order to draw out biblical themes like creation, humanness, fallenness, exile, exodus, redemption and transformation. Many films will discuss dark themes so this is an adults-only class.

Financial Peace University
Interest Meeting: March 15th after church
10 week class, begins Thursday, April 1st

FPU is a 10 week course by Dave Ramsey which focuses on better understanding money, our control of it, getting out of debt and investing so each of us can control our own lives financially. This DVD series is presented in a small group setting and followed by a group discussion.

Discover Your Strengths: Exploring the potential you were created for.
Interest Meetings: Sunday, February 7th and Sunday, September 12th after church
What would it look like if you focused your time and energy on areas that you are naturally strong? This interest meeting will give you a brief overview of the strength development and coaching process.

Culitvating Godly Habits: How to worship as a family.
2 sessions, Sunday, October 17th and Sunday, October 24th
Very practical strategzing session, exploring how to make Sunday morning a meaningful worship experience for the whole family together. Sunday morning needs to start Monday morning. Culitvating godly habits throughout the week enables rich, meaningful worship when we come together as a community on Sundays. We’ll explore how to use our weekdays to make Sundays more meaningful for our families and to use Sunday morning to feed us throughout the week.
